Accessibility statement
We want our store to work for as many people as possible, including people with disabilities. This page explains what already works, what we are still fixing, and how to reach us if something gets in your way.
Our approach
We treat accessibility as ongoing maintenance rather than a finished project. We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA as our guide when we build and review the store. We are not claiming that every page meets every one of those criteria today — some do not yet, and we name the gaps we know about below.
What already works
- The store can be operated entirely with a keyboard, without a mouse.
- The frame and adapter options on product pages can be reached and used with the keyboard. Arrow keys move between options; Enter or Space selects one.
- Keyboard focus is visible, and the focus outline stays readable on colored buttons.
- Header menus open with Enter and with the Space bar, not only by mouse click.
- Images have text alternatives. Purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers so they are not announced twice.
- Dropdowns, buttons and form fields have names that screen readers announce.
- The cart preview dialog takes focus when it opens, closes with Escape, and returns focus to the control that opened it.
- A skip link jumps straight to the main content, so you do not have to tab through the menu.
- Each page declares its language, so screen readers pronounce it correctly.
- When your system is set to reduce motion, we drop the automatic animations.
We deliberately do not use an accessibility overlay widget. Those tools add a layer on top of a site without fixing the underlying problems. We would rather fix the store itself.
Known limitations
- Color contrast has not been reviewed systematically yet. Some text may fall below the contrast ratio we aim for. A full review is still outstanding.
- Size charts are provided as images and do not yet have an equivalent text version. If you need measurements, email us and we will send them as text.
- Parts of this store come from outside providers — in particular the product personalization tool, customer reviews, the cookie notice and payment processing. We do not control their code directly. We report problems to those providers and look for alternatives where we need to.
Tell us about a barrier
If something blocks you, please tell us. Feedback from the people using the store is the most reliable way we learn about problems we would otherwise miss.
Email: info@heybalu.com — please put "Accessibility" in the subject line.
If you can, it helps us to know:
- the page or product involved
- what you were trying to do, and where it broke down
- your browser and device
- any assistive technology you use, such as a screen reader
We aim to reply within five business days.
If a barrier stops you from ordering
You should not have to fight the website to buy something. If an accessibility barrier keeps you from completing an order, email us at info@heybalu.com and our customer service team will help you place it directly, including personalized products.
How we assessed this
This statement is based on our own review: an examination of our source code against WCAG 2.1 AA and manual keyboard testing. We have not commissioned an external audit. We update this page as things change.
